The Labs are financed (a) by EPCglobal funds, (b) by industry involved in special interest groups, (c) by university and government funds.
The labs actively seek cooperation with any academic and non-academic research organization which share the same vision and bring along the necessary skills. Therefore the Auto-ID Labs started its Auto-ID Labs Academic Partner Program.

After a trademark dispute, the EPC Prototyping Platform is now called "Fosstrak" (previously Accada). Fosstrak stands for "free and open source software for track and trace".
